My name is Darren Stevens. I have been active in Coaching for a number of years and enjoy the interaction very much.
I used to work for a large American company managing a number of support teams, and although I really enjoyed the job and my colleagues, I wasn't completely fulfilled.
I first became interested in coaching at University back in 1991 (I'm older than my photo would suggest) where I specialised in a Human Resources discipline called "The Psychology of the Work Force". This allowed me to read, learn and understand how people are, why people are different, why we act certain ways and this understanding allowed me to focus on other people.
My disillusionment with large corporations eventually led me to find a recognised Life Coaching qualification , but more importantly, I also found NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). This discipline of human interaction allowed me to continue the study I began on my degree and go further into how people are, why we do these things and also what makes me "me" - and the rest is history!
I try to be as rounded a person as I can be, so you will find that I write poetry to help me understand myself better, I read books around my subject and others and in my spare time, I practice and teach a Chinese martial art . I also run and help out on NLP courses to maintain my own learnings.
My wife and two children take up the rest of my time, which is to say most of it.
This isn't about how old I appear to be. It's not about how many times I've been round the world and experienced different things. Nor is it about how many books I've read. We can all read books on self-help. Read "Sham" for more info!
This is about what skills and techniques I have learned that are SPECIFICALLY geared towards helping my clients make changes. What can I offer you in order to help you get to the best place you want to be quicker and more effectively than if you did it alone?
So, with this in mind, I graduated from University with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies (1994) where, as I say above, I specialised in business psychology.
I have maintained an interest in motivational psychology ever since and have attended seminars based on Life Coaching and NLP. I am now a qualified NLP Master Practitioner (via INLPTA, NOT one of those 5-day courses) which brings with it many many personal insights, techniques and tools to help facilitate change.
Further to this, I am almost finished with my BSc (Hons) in Psychology with the Open University and will eventually go on to do my PhD on a topic absolutely relevant to Life Coaching and other alternative therapies.
I have completed the Life Coaching Institute's qualification and achieved a Diploma in Life Coaching and also the INLPTA's NLP Coaching Diploma.
But, the most important thing I think I possess is a genuine desire to guide people on their own journey. I especially love the reaction people make when they realise they actually can make changes in their life. I go along for the ride and it feels great once you get to where you want to be. It is with both great passion and a personal need for growth that I want to help motivate people around me to make the most of their lives and not to simply accept their lot. I value and cherish my life as a Coach. I know I can inspire you to do the same with your life.
